Lebanon Chairs Joint FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for the Near East in Rome

The Director General of LIBNOR, Eng. Lena Dargham, the Regional Coordinator, chaired the meeting of the eighth session of the Codex Alimentarius Joint FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for the Near East. The meeting was held on June 1-5, 2015 in Rome, Italy at the Headquarters of FAO and was attended by delegations from 10 member countries and 4 observer countries.

The agenda comprised major and fundamental subjects, such as the proposals submitted in order to reactivate and promote the role of the Joint WHO/FAO coordinating committees, the discussions regarding the initiative that will replace the account of the secretariat of the Codex Alimentarius Commission and the strategic plan for the regional countries proposed by Lebanon, as well as a number of new regional draft standards and the determination of the needs of regional countries in terms of standards, training and capacity building in the fields of food safety and quality and national food control systems.
